Thomas Flake

Thomas Flake has built and operated compute infrastructure at scale — running a mining operation in excess of 50 MW alongside multiple data centers, carrying the power economics on his own balance sheet rather than a client's. That operating experience is the foundation of how ISS Mining approaches behind-the-meter power: not as a design exercise, but as a business he has already run through a full market cycle.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he has raised over $75 million across telecom and blockchain ventures, founded Picus, a competitive local exchange carrier, led the Peninsula Technology Incubator, and served as Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt for Naval Special Warfare. He holds an MBA from William & Mary.

Charles Clement is an operations leader with 10+ years of experience in general construction and commercial solar deployment. As COO of Southeast Energy Solutions, he manages implementation, logistics, and team coordination across all field operations. Known for his executional discipline and leadership in scaling field teams, Charles ensures projects are delivered on time and at quality across all phases of ISS's infrastructure development.

With an Industrial Engineering degree from the Latin University of Panama, he brings systems-level thinking to growth strategy, go-to-market execution, and investor alignment. At ISS, Roberto leads growth end-to-end — customer acquisition, strategic partnerships, capital formation, and performance infrastructure.

Brant Jones is the Co-Founder and people-first leader behind the company's mission. With a Master's in Social Work and years of solar experience, Brant brings a unique ability to fuse technical excellence with genuine customer care. His focus on integrity, trust, and service-driven growth shapes the cultural and operational foundation of the organization as it scales into the commercial and infrastructure space.

He built Southeast Energy Solutions alongside Charles Clement, growing it from one deal a month in Georgia to a fourteen-state footprint and $30 million in gross revenue.

Skip Smith is a Certified Energy Manager and nationally recognized expert in waste-to-energy systems, with over 500 MW of reclaimed heat and gas-to-power projects delivered. Since founding his consultancy in 1996, he has specialized in rapid ROI energy conversion systems, landfill gas, digester gas, and electrochemical purification of process gases. His deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience make him central to ISS's hybrid solar and gas-powered architecture.

Nip Lunga brings over 20 years of experience in telecom and energy strategy. He founded Rural Wireless Internet to expand broadband access to underserved communities and later advised industrial clients on energy procurement at InSource Power. His long-standing partnership with Skip Smith has produced multiple successful generation projects. At ISS, Nip leads market positioning, utility engagement, and regulatory alignment across energy and data infrastructure.

03Operating Principles

How we work.

Four rules that decide which sites we take, how we price them, and what we will put in writing.

  1. Power first

    Every site starts with one question: can it actually be served, and on whose timeline. Land without deliverable power is acreage. We work at the constraint rather than around it.

  2. Verified, not assumed

    Water, title, fiber, gas, entitlement, political support — each one becomes a document before it becomes a claim. A will-serve letter is not proximity to a transmission line, and we do not treat them as the same thing.

  3. The county is a counterparty

    Permits are granted by people. We hold relationships with commissions, municipalities, utilities, and landowners for as long as we hold the ground — and after we sell it. The reputational work decides whether a site energizes on schedule or waits two years.

  4. Specifics over narrative

    We publish the strict count next to the generous one and name the basis behind every figure we quote. Where a number rests on one source or an unreconciled discrepancy, we say so rather than average it away.
