In May 2025, Roberto Saad brought together Thomas Flake, Charles Clement, Brant Jones, and Skip Smith to discuss what initially looked like a crypto mining opportunity. The conversations evolved fast.
The thesis came first.
In those conversations, they recognized what the broader market hadn't yet priced in: AI was accelerating, power consumption was growing exponentially faster than grid capacity could expand, and the binding constraint on the entire compute cycle wouldn't be silicon or capital but power-rich land delivered behind the meter. Crypto was profitable. AI infrastructure was the larger market, the harder problem, and the work the team was actually built for.
ISS Mining was incorporated in May 2025 as a power-rich-land platform for AI — structured around that thesis from day one.
What the team brought to the thesis was deep, directly relevant operating experience: hyperscale data center construction with site leadership on Meta's Stanton Springs campus and Microsoft's $420 million Palmetto facility; combined heat and power, landfill gas, and waste-heat recovery engineering with more than 500 MW of reclaimed-energy generation delivered; greenfield digital infrastructure deployment compressed from lease execution to live operation in eight weeks; and growth and capital formation across the solar and energy sectors. The people who built the platform had already done the work the platform requires.

Compute follows power; never the other way around. No site enters the funnel without a credible behind-the-meter power path or a verified grid pathway. Power is the binding constraint on AI infrastructure, and the platform is built to honor that on every site.
Political and community support is the reputational layer of every site. Permits don't matter if the community doesn't want the facility; counterparties don't matter if the political relationship breaks. No site enters the funnel without that buy-in established.
Technical, regulatory, and reputational work runs in parallel on every site. This is the work most counterparties cannot run together — it's the moat, and it's the operating discipline the platform is built to deliver repeatably.
Every site is built to support multiple deal shapes — transfer, joint venture, development, or operation. No site is engineered around a single exit, and the deliverable is configured to where the buyer wants to engage.
